Dutch regional responses to national budget plans

Following the presentation of the Dutch national budget (Miljoenennota) on Prinsjesdag, various regional authorities have responded to the cabinet’s proposed plans for economic growth, housing, and sustainability.

In North Holland, provincial officials expressed support for the budget, noting that €60 million allocated for the Groene Hart and Laag Holland regions could assist with nature reinforcement and nitrogen emission reductions. They also welcomed the focus on expanding the power grid to support housing and industrial sustainability.

However, other regions have called for more substantial investment and reduced bureaucracy to meet national ambitions. In South Holland, officials warned that insufficient funding could delay critical infrastructure and the economic transition. In the Northern Netherlands, the Samenwerkingsverband Noord-Nederland (SNN) raised concerns over the lack of concrete funding for essential infrastructure projects like the Lelylijn and Nedersaksenlijn. Additionally, leadership in the Parkstad region emphasized that successful implementation of housing and healthcare goals requires a genuine partnership and increased investment from the national government.
