A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Colombia has resulted in significant loss of life and widespread destruction. Preliminary official reports from the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) indicate at least 294 deaths and nearly 4,000 injuries, with cities such as Cali and Pereira among the hardest hit. The disaster has destroyed more than 14,000 homes, forcing many survivors into temporary shelters. Individual tragedies have been reported throughout the affected regions.
