Overview

The Philippines is implementing strategic frameworks to drive industrial and economic growth in Mindanao and the Visayas. Following the signing of Executive Order No. 122 by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Mindanao is being positioned as a gateway for critical minerals and clean energy. This policy aims to transition the nation from raw mineral extraction to high-value production, such as refining and battery technologies. Mindanao currently provides 95 percent of the country’s nickel ore output.

Complementing these mineral-focused initiatives, the government is also targeting Mindanao as a hub for artificial intelligence and technology-driven industries under the 2026 Strategic Investment Priority Plan (SIPP). This includes advancements in integrated circuit design and digital services.

Broader regional economic momentum is also reflected in the rapid growth of cities like Butuan, Davao, Iloilo, and General Santos. This expansion is supported by infrastructure improvements and private sector developments, such as residential master-planned communities, to meet rising demand in these provinces.
