As Mexico approaches its 216th Independence Day celebrations on September 15, 2026, economic projections and social preparations have intensified. In Mexico City, President Claudia Sheinbaum is scheduled to lead the official ceremony at the Zócalo. The musical lineup includes the norteño group Intocable, who will perform a free concert at 21:00—marking their return to the Zócalo after ten years—before the traditional Grito at 23:00. The Zócalo will also feature a special light display honoring four female insurgents, including Josefa Ortiz Téllez-Girón and Leona Vicario.

Regional festivities continue to expand. In Soledad de Graciano Sánchez, the “Viva Soledad” Festival will host the “Soledad Baila, Soledad Canta” event at Jardín Hidalgo on September 13. This performance, part of the “Domingos Culturales” program, features the musical group Par de Reinas, consisting of vocalists Rubí Flores and Cecilia Jaime.

Other regional plans include a light and sound show in Cuernavaca to replace traditional fireworks, and performances by Bronco and Zenda Norteña in Ciudad Juárez. Additionally, the Camerata de Coahuila is scheduled to perform in Torreón, while celebrations are also planned in Huamantla, Tlaxcala, and San Mateo Atenco.

Regarding the academic calendar, the SEP has confirmed that while September 15 is a regular school day, September 16 remains an official holiday for basic education students.
