Economic developments in Thai Nguyen province

Overview

Thai Nguyen province reported an estimated GRDP growth of 11.24% for the first nine months of 2026, exceeding the national average of 9.01%. This growth was primarily driven by industrial production, with the manufacturing and processing sector growing by 23.63% and electronic product manufacturing increasing by 24.64%. Despite this, the province experienced business instability, as nearly 2,000 enterprises exited the market compared to 1,660 new businesses joining. Foreign direct investment remained a significant factor, with 23 new projects totaling 5.8 billion USD registered during this period.

In addition to industrial growth, the province is promoting its ‘Five Great Famous Teas’ to drive green agriculture. Efforts are focused on shifting production toward higher quality and value-added products, with cooperatives adopting VietGAP and organic standards. Key tea-producing regions, such as Tan Cuong, are utilizing modern processing and packaging technology to enhance production quality.
