Ecuador economic stimulus and price adjustments

Overview

President Daniel Noboa has introduced several economic measures in Ecuador to stimulate consumption and mitigate financial pressures.

In late September, the administration announced Executive Decree 513, which temporarily reduced the Value Added Tax (VAT) for qualified tourism services from 15% to 8% for the October 9–11 holiday period. The government also ordered the early payment of the thirteenth salary for public sector employees on November 16, 2026, to increase consumer liquidity.

On October 7, the President announced a 4-cent reduction in the price of Extra, Ecopaís, and diesel fuels. Scheduled to take effect on October 12, this reduction aims to benefit citizens and offset the impact of global energy market fluctuations on the country’s productive sectors. Under the new pricing structure, Extra and Ecopaís gasolines will decrease from approximately USD 3.21 to USD 3.17 per gallon, while diesel will drop from roughly USD 3.15 to USD 3.11 per gallon. This decision follows a series of monthly downward adjustments implemented throughout 2026. President Noboa emphasized that the measure aims to alleviate economic pressure on households and the productive sector, noting that the state and private sector must work together to support the national economy.
