Edo Queens FC, the reigning Nigeria Women Football League champions, began preparations for the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers in Burkina Faso through friendly matches. During a two-leg friendly series against FC Robo Queens at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Edo Queens faced an initial 1-0 defeat in the first leg, with Ajakaye Opeyemi scoring for FC Robo. To strengthen the squad, the club announced the signing of three players: Kemi Adegbuyi, the reigning NWFL Player of the Season and Golden Ball winner from FC Robo Queens, as well as Dooshima Tarnum and Vera Samuel from Bayelsa Queens. These acquisitions were intended to provide the depth necessary for continental competition. Edo Queens has become the second Nigerian club to qualify for this continental stage twice. As the tournament approached, head coach Moses Aduku noted that the friendly matches were vital for assessing squad depth, particularly as six key players were absent due to national U-20 camp duties. Edo Queens has since departed Benin City for Burkina Faso with a delegation of 21 players and 10 officials. Because Moses Aduku is currently on national duty with the Nigeria Falconets, Kennedy Boboye, head coach of Bendel Insurance FC, will provide technical support for the team. Before their departure, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele of the Edo State Sports Commission urged the squad to serve as ambassadors for Edo State and Nigeria. The club ~~has~~ arrived in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, for the 2026 WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers. Placed in Group B, Edo Queens will compete against ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire, Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC of Ghana, and AS Garde Nationale of ~~Niger, with~~ Niger. Edo Queens opened their campaign ~~scheduled to begin against AS Garde Nationale~~ on August ~~24.~~ 24 with a seven-goal victory over AS Garde Nationale.
