Educational initiatives in Elqui Valley

Overview

Educational initiatives are being implemented in the Elqui Valley to improve student learning and school environments. In Paihuano and Vicuña, approximately 200 primary school students from nine public schools participated in English immersion workshops. Led by Fundación Educacional Oportunidad and SLEP Elqui, these sessions utilized interactive methods such as songs, games, and storytelling to enhance auditory comprehension and vocabulary.

In addition to language programs, the “A Convivir Se Aprende” initiative has been launched to address school violence and mental health. This Ministry of Education program, executed by Universidad Andrés Bello, employs a “Total School Model” to improve school climate. The program provides direct support to 10 schools in La Higuera, Vicuña, and Paihuano, while extending territorial work to 50 establishments within the SLEP Elqui service area, including La Serena.
