Egypt academic calendar rumors and clarifications

The Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education has issued clarifications regarding the 2026-2027 academic calendar to address social media rumors.

Initially, the ministry dismissed claims that the school year would be postponed, confirming that international schools would start on September 6, 2026, followed by public, private, and language schools on September 12, 2026. To manage the start of the term, officials planned a gradual entry system to mitigate overcrowding.

Subsequently, the ministry denied rumors suggesting a 60-day extension to the school year. Dr. Akram Hassan, Assistant Minister for Curriculum Development, clarified that the academic year would only begin one week earlier than the previous year, extending the duration from 30 to 31 weeks. Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif stated that the total number of school days will reach 183, an increase from 116 days in the 2023/2024 period, in an effort to align with international standards and reduce student reliance on private tutoring.
