Egypt agricultural and food security initiatives

Egypt is engaging in various diplomatic and technical efforts to enhance food security and agricultural development. Initial efforts focused on bilateral cooperation with Yemen’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries to exchange expertise in fishery management, aquaculture, and production efficiency. These discussions also addressed institutional capacity building and public-private partnerships to improve logistics at fishing ports. Additionally, meetings were held with Catholic Relief Services to discuss supporting farmers through agricultural supplies and projects like “Basateen” to foster local production.

More recently, Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mustafa Al-Sayyad, participated in the Global Food Security Summit in Abu Dhabi. The focus shifted toward international integration, strengthening bilateral trade with the UAE, and attracting investment into innovative food systems. Discussions at the summit emphasized the role of artificial intelligence in ecosystems, smart supply chain resilience, and the necessity of partnerships with international organizations such as the FAO, IFAD, and the World Food Programme to bolster regional food security.
