Egypt fuel pricing and production

Entities: Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (Egypt) · Alexandria National Refining and Petrochemicals Company · Egypt · Karim Badawi · Cairo Oil Refining Company (Mostorod)

Overview

In mid‑July 2026 the Egyptian government announced new official fuel prices for gasoline, diesel, LPG and CNG, citing recent spikes linked to the Iran‑U.S. conflict and pledging quarterly reviews to protect consumers. Within two weeks, the oil ministry reported that crude output had risen to its highest level in about two years, driving refinery utilisation to roughly 80 % and enabling petroleum‑product exports worth US$2.3 billion in the first half of the year.

By late July, crude production climbed to an estimated 520‑550 000 barrels per day – about a 20 % increase – after the ministry settled outstanding dues with international partners, spurring new upstream investment. Refinery utilisation remained around 80 %, with some plants, such as Alexandria National Refining, operating above design capacity. The higher throughput lifted petroleum‑product exports in the first half of 2026 to over 2.3 million tonnes, matching the total exported in all of 2025, and export volumes are projected to reach roughly 2.5 million tonnes in the second half of the year. The government continues to advance $4.5 billion of new refinery development projects to further boost energy security, increase gasoline and jet‑fuel output, and reduce import costs while stabilising domestic fuel prices and expanding export earnings.
