Egypt-Japan educational cooperation

Overview

Select Egypt-Japan Schools across Egypt have introduced Japanese language classes for junior high and high school students. This curriculum follows a 2016 agreement between Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi and former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

In addition to language instruction, these schools incorporate Japanese educational practices, such as student duty rotations and classroom cleaning. Approximately 400 students across 10 schools are currently enrolled. The Japan Foundation has supported the initiative by training Egyptian teachers to lead the lessons, aiming to foster cultural exchange and prepare students for global roles.
