Egypt MSME and innovation support initiatives
Overview
Egypt has introduced new measures to bolster its startup ecosystem and knowledge-based economy. The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Agency announced the creation of an ‘innovation support unit’ to assist small businesses with technological, administrative, and operational challenges. This agency also intends to develop a comprehensive database to improve the investment climate and integrate small businesses into supply chains.
Concurrently, the Innovators and Geniuses Care Fund launched an integrated plan to support youth entrepreneurship and innovation. This initiative focuses on connecting universities and research centers with industrial sectors to transform student projects into competitive startups. Key components include the ‘We Are Listening’ initiative for idea discovery, university hackathons, and programs designed to prepare graduates for the evolving labor market.
