Egypt teacher recruitment and staffing measures
Overview
The Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education has implemented measures to address teacher shortages for the 2026/2027 academic year.
Initially, the Ministry established regulations for hiring teachers on a per-lesson basis. Under these rules, applicants must hold appropriate qualifications, though a higher degree requirement may be waived for those with at least five years of experience. To maintain educational stability, teachers are limited to a maximum of 20 lessons per week, with an incentive of 50 Egyptian pounds per lesson for additional workload.
Following these regulations, the Ministry scheduled interviews for candidates with disabilities as part of the fifth phase of a teacher recruitment competition. Interviews are organized by geographic region and held at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. Amidst these processes, Senator Amr Rashad has proposed that the Minister consider issuing a supplement to the competition results to include other qualified applicants to further mitigate staffing shortages.
