The Egyptian Exchange has transitioned through periods of record highs, volatility, and subsequent recovery. On August 16, the EGX30 reached a new record of 55,854.74 points, fueled by blue-chip stocks like Telecom Egypt, Fawry, and e-finance. This rally was partly attributed to an anticipated September index reshuffle. However, profit-taking caused the EGX30 to retreat the following day, even as smaller stocks in the EGX70 Equal Weight Index gained 0.63%. A significant block trade of 18.45 million Commercial International Bank (CIB) shares, valued at roughly EGP 2.46 billion, occurred during this high-activity period. By late August, the market faced a downturn. Total market capitalization fell by 0.4% to 4.2189 trillion pounds, with the EGX30 declining approximately 0.9% over the week. During this period, Egyptian institutions were net buyers, while foreign and Arab investors recorded net sales. By August 31, the market regained momentum. Market capitalization rose to approximately 4.308 trillion Egyptian pounds. Both the EGX30 and the EGX70 EWI recorded gains, with the latter jumping 1.74%. While Egyptian buyers drove this growth, Arab and foreign investors continued to trend toward selling. In early September, the upward trend continued as the EGX30 approached the 57,000-point mark, closing at 56,676 points after a 0.72% rise. Market capitalization grew to 4.418 trillion Egyptian pounds. By mid-September, the market shifted toward rotation and consolidation, with the EGX30 ending a volatile week nearly flat, up just 0.02%. While large-cap stocks showed weakness, smaller stocks in the EGX70 and EGX100 recorded modest gains. International capital showed a preference for Egyptian sovereign debt over equities, resulting in net foreign equity sales of approximately EGP 1.04bn. On September 21, the EGX 70 dropped by 2.89%, while market capitalization stood at 4.334 trillion EGP. On September 23, the market faced renewed downward pressure from institutional selling.
