Elazığ cultural tourism and museum initiatives

Under the “Museum City Elazığ” initiative led by Mayor Şahin Şerifoğulları, the city of Elazığ is expanding its cultural tourism through various museum projects and historical restorations.

Initial efforts highlighted the Elazığ Kent Museum, specifically its Education History Department, which preserves the city’s schooling history from the early Republic era to the present through displays of textbooks, uniforms, and teaching tools. This exhibit has drawn significant local interest by providing a link to the city’s educational heritage.

The scope of the initiative has grown to include a network of restored sites, such as the Harput Musiki Museum, the Press Museum, the Hoca Hasan Hamam Museum, and the City Museum. These locations focus on preserving musical traditions, media archives, Ottoman architecture, and local crafts. Ongoing projects, including the restoration of the Elazığ Teachers' House—which contains a room used by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1937—aim to further integrate the city’s cultural heritage into a comprehensive visitor experience.
