Elderly support and recognition in Nantou County

Overview

Nantou County has implemented various initiatives to support and honor its elderly population.

In early October, the Nantou County Health Bureau launched an elderly-friendly community program across 13 townships to mark the International Day of Older Persons. The initiative combines health services, such as blood pressure monitoring, with intergenerational activities like traditional millet harvesting lessons and cognitive exercises through arts and food preparation.

Later in the month, ahead of the Double Ninth Festival, local governments held ceremonies to recognize long-married couples. In Tanaka Township, 50 couples were honored for their milestones, including platinum and diamond anniversaries. Additionally, the Nantou County Government hosted a large-scale event at Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village to celebrate 1,386 couples, ranging from golden to platinum wedding anniversaries. County Magistrate Hsü Shu-hua described the seniors as role models for stability in modern society.
