Election Commission of India election preparations

Overview

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated preparations for upcoming state assembly elections through technical inspections and official tours.

In mid-September, the ECI conducted a workshop in Varanasi to facilitate the First Level Check (FLC) of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs). This training, involving district election officers from 21 districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh, focused on technical and administrative procedures to ensure machine functionality and transparency.

By early October, the ECI expanded its oversight, with senior officials scheduled to inspect election preparations across five states, including Goa, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Manipur. In states like Uttar Pradesh and Goa, the FLC process continues with engineers from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) inspecting devices for flaws, conducting mock voting, and managing the repair or replacement of defective machines.
