Electricity demand increases in Telangana

Overview

Electricity demand in Telangana has reached record levels. On September 29, the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) reported an all-time high demand of 12,044 MW, surpassing a previous peak set earlier that month.

By October 1, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area also recorded a three-year peak demand of 4,114 MW. Officials attributed these surges to urban expansion and growth in the commercial and IT sectors.

In response to these trends and financial requirements, the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) has approved the recovery of Rs 5,420 crore in pending dues from non-agricultural consumers. These costs are expected to be reflected in increased electricity bills starting in November, with monthly increments applied over more than two years.
