Electronic waste recycling initiatives in Mexico

Overview

The Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC) has recycled 27 tons of electrical and electronic waste as part of its national social development programs.

These initiatives, which include reforestation and the collection of plastic bottle caps, aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide social support. Through the ‘Recicla y Ayuda’ program, the organization collects plastic caps to fund medical treatments, studies, and prosthetics for children with cancer. CMIC has set a goal to collect half a ton of plastic caps this year, a move expected to prevent the emission of one ton of CO2 equivalent.
