Investigations into the 1983 disappearances of Emanuela Orlandi and Mirella Gregori have progressed through new forensic and testimonial developments. Carabinieri RIS investigators in Rome are conducting genetic testing on a flute reportedly sent by filmmaker Marco Fassoni Accetti. However, the victim’s former music teacher, Loriano Berti, has disputed the instrument’s authenticity, noting that Orlandi practiced on a high-quality Yamaha flute while the recovered item is a simpler Rampone model. A parliamentary commission of inquiry has focused on Raoul Bonarelli, a former Vatican State Police official considered a potential link between the two cases. While Bonarelli was previously investigated for perjury in 1993, allegations suggest he may have faced pressure from the Vatican to withhold information. Recent testimony from Maria Laura Bulanti, mother of Josè Garramon, has further linked the investigation to Marco Accetti. Bulanti testified regarding the 1983 death of her son, noting that prosecutor Simona Maisto previously suggested that while Accetti could not be retried for that crime due to the principle of ne bis in idem, he might provide information leading to the location of Emanuela Orlandi. In a new development, the Rome Prosecutor's Office has placed Gabriella Boggiani under investigation. Boggiani testified before a parliamentary commission that in 1983, Accetti—an acquaintance at the time—instructed her to make a prank call from a public booth, telling her to say, ‘we know where Emanuela Orlandi is.’ The parliamentary commission is now reopening the investigation, refocused by a mysterious diary entry containing a school joke. Upcoming testimonies include a French teacher who assigned Orlandi remedial exams at the time of her disappearance, and Alessandra Bellucci, a former classmate of Mirella Gregori. Furthermore, the Rome Prosecutor's Office has placed Marco Accetti back on the register of suspects, investigating him for kidnapping for the purpose of extortion. A parliamentary commission has summoned Gianfranco Cerboni, known as ‘Giggetto’, to testify on October 15.
