Emergency housing initiative in Beja, Portugal
Overview
Associação ESTAR, a social solidarity institution in Beja, is launching ‘Projeto VIVER’, a 36-month initiative to provide emergency housing and social support for homeless individuals. Approved by the Alentejo 2030 Regional Program Steering Committee, the project is scheduled to run from November 2026 to December 2029.
The project involves a total investment of over 610,000 euros, with approximately 85% of the costs covered by the European Social Fund Plus. The initiative will establish the REDE (Residência de Emergência e Desenvolvimento) to offer temporary housing alongside technical and social support.
To address the shortage of emergency accommodation in the district, multidisciplinary teams will implement individualized intervention plans. According to Estar president Madalena Palma, the project aims to provide dignified care and support autonomy for those in need, aligning with the National Strategy for the Integration of People in Homeless Situations (ENIPSSA).
