Emergency preparedness drills in Latin America and Spain

Various regions have conducted emergency response simulations and training exercises to improve disaster preparedness.

In Venezuela, authorities in Táchira performed a seismic drill simulating a 7.2 magnitude earthquake, focusing on search and rescue in collapsed structures. This exercise involved coordination between the National Risk Management System, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, and Red Cross volunteers from both Venezuela and Colombia. Additionally, in the Francisco Linares Alcántara municipality, local officials provided new uniforms and Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (EDAN) certification to Civil Protection personnel to improve community assistance prioritization.

In Spain, a chemical emergency drill was held at a plant in Lantarón to simulate a hydrogen sulfide gas leak, explosion, and fire. The exercise tested external emergency plans and the activation of chemical sirens in coordination with the Basque Government.

In Argentina, nursing students in Oberá conducted a multi-victim road accident simulation to strengthen the practical competencies of health professionals and improve coordination among local emergency services.
