Overview
The Emilia-Romagna region initiated the first General Assembly of Fishing and Aquaculture to develop a comprehensive sector strategy. Davide Vasini, president of the Rete della Piccola Pesca Costiera dell’Emilia-Romagna, warned of a “catastrophic winter” ahead, noting that approximately 44 companies and 50 boats in their network are currently inactive. The sector faces long-term economic strain from high fuel costs, invasive species, and anoxia, leaving small-scale fleets particularly vulnerable.
