England and Sri Lanka ODI cricket series

Overview

England and Sri Lanka have engaged in a series of One-Day International (ODI) matches. In late September, England secured a 2-1 series victory at the Kia Oval, highlighted by a 223-run win in the third match where Tom Banton scored 126 runs.

In October, the teams met for a tri-nation series in Pakistan. During the third ODI at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, England posted a record total of 429 for four, featuring a double century from Harry Brook. Brook became the first English batter to score an ODI double century, finishing with 202 runs off 116 deliveries. Other notable contributions for England included 69 from Joe Root and an unbeaten 66 from Will Jacks.

Sri Lanka achieved a historic two-wicket victory by successfully chasing the 430-run target with just one ball remaining, marking the second-highest successful run chase in ODI history. The pursuit was anchored by Pavan Rathnayake’s 130 runs, supported by Avishka Fernando (97) and Dasun Shanaka (97). Janith Liyanage sealed the win by hitting a six off the penultimate ball, finishing with an unbeaten 61. Following the loss, Harry Brook noted that the team “didn't perform well with the ball.”
