Long-term data indicates the country has experienced 93 major disasters over the last forty years, impacting more than 20% of the population through events such as earthquakes, floods, and volcanic eruptions.

In Guayaquil, high tides known as ‘aguaje’ caused water to accumulate in streets, with tides reaching 4.40 meters in the Guayaquil-Río sector. These conditions increase the risk of flooding in areas near rivers and estuaries.
