Environmental conservation and park planning in Catalonia

Overview

Environmental initiatives and conservation planning are progressing across various regions in Catalonia. In Ivars d’Urgell, land acquisition at Prat de Montsuar is moving forward through an agreement between the local council, the Generalitat, and the Institució Catalana d’Història Natural (ICHN) to facilitate ecological restoration of threatened flora.

In the Conca de Barberà region, municipalities including Montblanc, L’Espluga de Francolí, and Vilanova de Prades have submitted joint allegations regarding the proposed Prades Mountains Natural Park. Local leaders are seeking to maintain municipal control over water infrastructure and ensure the autonomy of the Poblet Natural Site of National Interest.

Further developments include the launch of a tender in El Vendrell for the Parc del Botafoc, a project focused on the renaturalization of the Bisbal stream supported by European Union FEDER funds. Additionally, El Prat de Llobregat has entered a two-year partnership with SEO/BirdLife to monitor local biodiversity and avian fauna.
