Ericsson 5G network deployment and AI technology trials
Overview
Ericsson has expanded its telecommunications footprint through new contracts and technological trials involving 5G infrastructure.
In Japan, NTT DOCOMO selected Ericsson’s AI-native RAN Compute platform to support 5G networks, a system designed to provide increased capacity with reduced energy consumption. Following these developments, SoftBank and Ericsson conducted a trial of AI-native Radio Access Network technology on a commercial 5G network. This trial, which utilized an AI-native Scheduler for Link Adaptation, reportedly achieved a 50 percent increase in downlink user throughput and a 25 percent improvement in spectral efficiency in certain instances.
In the United States, AT&T partnered with Ericsson to deploy 600 MHz dual-band radios. This deployment aims to operationalize spectrum acquired from EchoStar, utilizing eight-receiver technology to enhance uplink capacity and improve coverage across rural, suburban, and indoor environments.
