The administration of Ladakh has taken steps to enhance judicial access and social stability in the region. Initially, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena approved Leh as the site for a sitting bench of the High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh, citing that the Leh Division accounts for approximately 60 per cent of the Union Territory’s pending cases. Alongside this, the Lieutenant Governor approved the withdrawal of criminal cases against 20 individuals involved in previous violence in Leh to promote “peace, public tranquility, and social harmony.” Following these administrative preparations, a A permanent sitting bench of the High Court was officially inaugurated in Melongthang, Leh. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Chief Justice of India and India, Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant.
