Estonia police fraud arrests

In late July 2026 Tallinn police responded to two separate criminal matters. On July 19 a training‑grenade blast at a metal‑recycling site injured no one; a 58‑year‑old suspect was arrested the same day. Two days later, officers detained two brothers, aged 24 and 18, accused of running a nationwide courier‑fraud scheme that impersonated officials to obtain cash and bank cards, seizing about €3,000 and multiple cards.

A week after those arrests, on July 27 police in the northern prefecture apprehended a 37‑year‑old Latvian man in Tallinn. He is alleged to have operated a cash‑flow fraud targeting primarily elderly victims, stealing at least €36,000 through bogus phone‑infection claims and unauthorized card use. Authorities recovered roughly €3,000, dozens of foreign bank cards and identity documents. The investigation, led by local prosecutors, continues to contact affected individuals and probe related complaints across several counties.

Together, the incidents illustrate an intensified police effort in Estonia to dismantle diverse fraud networks operating through impersonation, courier delivery, and phishing tactics.
