Eti Bakır copper production expansion in Turkey

Overview

Eti Bakır, a subsidiary of Cengiz Holding, is significantly expanding its copper production capabilities in Turkey through large-scale investments.

Initial reports highlighted the economic impact of the company’s Siirt operation in Madenköy, which contributes approximately $180 million annually to the Turkish economy. This facility utilizes advanced technology, including a vertical shaft system, to process 1 million tons of ore into 80,000 tons of copper concentrate for refining in Samsun.

Building on these operations, Eti Bakır announced a total investment of $2.2 billion to expand production across several regions, including Elazığ, Çanakkale, and Sinop. A new $800 million facility in Elazığ has commenced operations, while the Halilağa Copper Mine project in Çanakkale is expected to be operational by the end of the year following a $600 million investment. These expansions, alongside capacity increases at the Samsun refining plant, aim to meet approximately 25% of Turkey’s annual copper demand.
