Archaeologists from the University of Bologna discovered an exceptionally well-preserved ritual well in the ancient Etruscan city of Kainua, near Marzabotto, Italy. Located within a sacred precinct dedicated to the goddess Uni, the well contained bronze votive offerings dating to the late sixth and early fifth centuries BC, including two female figurines and a rare bronze plate.

Researchers believe these artifacts were deposited during a ceremonial foundation ritual. The site also contained the skeletons of two adults, likely part of a later ritual marking the well’s closure. The discovery highlights the well’s dual role in providing water access and serving a significant religious function within the city’s spiritual landscape.
