EU cybersecurity regulation and compliance

The European Union is implementing various regulatory frameworks to strengthen cybersecurity across different sectors. Reports indicate that the financial sector faces significant challenges regarding communication security and fraud risks, with 88% of surveyed representatives noting that regulations heavily influence client communication methods. While security incidents have increased, such as the 31,200 incidents recorded by CERT Polska in July 2026, many organizations view EU legal norms like the NIS2 directive and DORA regulation positively, reporting improved security and increased awareness of digital threats.

Furthering this regulatory landscape, the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) establishes stricter security mandates for hardware and software products. Manufacturers of digital devices must now adhere to specific vulnerability reporting timelines, including issuing early warnings within 24 hours and full notifications within 72 hours. These obligations extend to all digital products in the EU market. Compliance will be overseen by national authorities and managed through a centralized platform, as the focus of cybersecurity responsibility increasingly shifts toward corporate boards and the protection of critical infrastructure.
