EU Energy Regulation Academy launch

Overview

The European Commission and the European University Institute have launched the Energy Regulation Academy (EnRA), a three-year EU-funded initiative. The program is designed to assist national authorities, ministries, and regulatory bodies across all 27 Member States in implementing recent electricity market reforms.

By providing specialized training, workshops, and technical assistance, the Academy aims to bridge the gap between European regulatory approval and practical national application. The curriculum focuses on key areas such as electricity market design, grid investment and planning, digitalization, renewable energy integration, system flexibility, and consumer protection.

Leonardo Meeus, director of the Florence School of Regulation, noted that the initiative seeks to build a European community capable of “collectively identifying and solving regulatory problems rather than just transferring knowledge,” ensuring that the effectiveness of EU reforms is not limited by the implementation capacity of national institutions.
