EU labor regulation of artificial intelligence
Overview
European labor ministries are addressing the impact of artificial intelligence and algorithmic management on the workforce. In Greece, Minister Niki Kerameus has engaged in social dialogue regarding a bill to regulate AI in the labor market, specifically aiming to limit the “uncontrolled use of algorithmic and automated AI systems” to protect platform workers and personal data.
Similarly, Bulgaria’s Minister of Labour and Social Policy, Natalia Efremova, announced efforts to transpose directives intended to improve working conditions for platform workers. Efremova noted that while AI increases efficiency and creates new roles, it also transforms professional requirements and raises concerns regarding workload and the extent of worker reliance on automated systems.
