EU roaming fees and Cosmote's expanded offers

Overview

EU roaming regulations, in force since June 2017, allow subscribers to use mobile services across member states without extra charges. However, risks of unexpected fees remain due to data caps—where foreign allowances may be limited to approximately one-fifth of domestic quotas—and the potential for devices to automatically switch to non-EU networks at borders.

To mitigate costs for travel outside the EU, Greek operator Cosmote Telekom has expanded its roaming offerings. The COSMOTE Travel Pass allows contract customers to use existing minutes, SMS, and data in over 120 countries at reduced daily rates. For Zone A, the daily fee is €5.95 (down from €7.69), and for Zone B, it is €9.95 (down from €14.29).

Additionally, the provider has introduced enhanced Roaming Now packages, which can be scheduled via the Cosmote app. In Zone A, these packages range from €3.90 for 1GB over three days to €11.90 for 5GB over 15 days. In Zone B, options start at €8.90 for 1GB over three days, with a 3GB/15-day option priced at €19.90. These services are available to contract, prepaid, and COSMOTE NEO customers.
