By the end of July, the programme, coordinated by Norway’s SINTEF and involving 13 partners across ten European countries, detailed its two‑track approach: an electro‑chemical process that converts captured CO₂ directly into ethylene for plastics, and a separate low‑energy catalytic route that transforms CO₂ into high‑purity graphite suitable for lithium‑ion battery anodes. The €8.4 million effort focuses on sectors such as steel, cement and data‑centers, aiming to replace waste treatment with value‑adding feedstock production while assessing scale‑up and economic viability.
