European democracy and judicial engagement in Croatia
Overview
In late September 2026, the Cres Summer School was held on the Croatian island of Cres, focusing on the theme ‘Democracy and Security in Europe: Building Resilience in Uncertain Times.’ Organized by the Austrian Society for European Politics, the event featured discussions on EU enlargement, strategic autonomy, and the geopolitical role of the European Union.
Following this, the Croatian Ministry of Justice, Administration, and Digital Transformation observed European Justice Day. The initiative included meetings between Minister Damir Habijan and law students to discuss digital transformation and the use of artificial intelligence in the judiciary. Additionally, 51 courts across Croatia held open house days to increase public transparency and engagement with the legal system.
