Overview
Various European railway operators have announced themed train services for the 2026 holiday season.
In Switzerland, the Rhätische Bahn has scheduled three Advent excursions in the Graubünden mountain landscapes for December 2026. These include a ‘Journey to the Land of Lights’ featuring historical steam trains and storytelling, the Samiklaus-Express utilizing the historical G 4/5 107 ‘Albula’ steam locomotive, and a culinary journey from Chur to Arosa featuring a three-course winter menu.
In Italy, the FS Group is reintroducing historical journeys. The Espresso Monaco will connect Rome to Munich, Germany, via several stops including Innsbruck, to visit Christmas markets. Additionally, the Espresso Natale will run between Rome Termini and Arezzo on five Sundays between late November and late December, providing access to Arezzo’s Christmas markets.
