European integration and cultural forums in Skopje
Overview
In late September 2026, Skopje hosted a series of international forums focused on European integration, civil society, and cultural heritage.
A Civil Forum titled ‘Citizens at the Heart of the EU Enlargement Process’ was held to discuss North Macedonia’s European integration and the role of participatory democracy. Organized by the European Parliament’s Committee on Democracy Support and Election Coordination and the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, the event featured discussions between citizens, members of the European Parliament, and national MPs.
Following this, the ‘European Dialogues: Heritage and European Future’ forum launched, accompanied by the ‘Solidarity as Future’ art exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Organized by French institutions, the event highlighted historical cultural solidarity following the 1963 Skopje earthquake and included debates and workshops regarding collective European memory and the challenges facing the European Union.
