In July 2026 coordinated raids in Greece, Bulgaria and the Netherlands broke a ring moving migrants from Turkey into Thessaloniki, leading to seven arrests and €300,000 profit from twelve trips. A few weeks later Italian authorities disrupted a separate Algerian‑led operation that sent 50‑60 migrants to Sardinia, detaining eight suspects. On 6 August 2026 Spanish police, the Guardia Civil, Europol and partner forces from France, Portugal and Poland carried out a joint operation that resulted in 78 arrests (77 in Spain, one in Algeria) and the seizure of 18 high‑speed vessels worth over €5 million. The network had transported more than 2,000 migrants on 64 documented voyages and earned over €24 million from combined people‑smuggling and synthetic‑drug trafficking to Algeria.
