European railway station performance rankings

Overview

The 2026 European Railway Station Index, published by the Consumer Choice Centre, identifies Zürich Hbf in Switzerland as the top-ranked major railway station in Europe. The index evaluated 60 of the continent’s busiest stations using metrics such as punctuality, accessibility, waiting times, and digital amenities.

While Zürich Hbf secured the first position, other high-performing stations included Paris Nord, which saw significant improvements to reach second place, and Amsterdam Central. Poland also showed strength in the rankings, with stations like Wrocław Central and Kraków Główny performing well.

In contrast to the high performance in Switzerland, France, and the Netherlands, German rail infrastructure faced a notable decline. German stations occupied several of the lowest positions in the index, with the national average delay rate reported at 49.4%, significantly exceeding the European average of 29%.
