European renewable energy power purchase agreements

Overview

Energy companies in the United Kingdom and Norway are securing large-scale, long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) to stabilize electricity supplies for industrial and data center needs.

In the United Kingdom, Good Energy entered a two-year contract with Ørsted to purchase 200GWh of renewable electricity annually from the Walney 1 and Walney 2 offshore wind farms between October 2026 and October 2028. This agreement aims to support rising electricity demands from data centers.

In Norway, Statkraft and Hydro Energi signed a long-term agreement to supply 876 GWh annually from 2031 to 2040, totaling approximately 8.8 TWh. This deal, which marks the third such agreement between the two companies in 2026, is intended to provide stable, low-carbon power for Hydro’s aluminium production plants and mitigate price risks for both parties.
