European swimming championships in France

Major European swimming competitions are taking place in France, highlighting the regional sporting infrastructure. In Saint-Denis, the European Swimming Championships utilized venues established during the Paris 2024 Olympics, with local officials aiming to use the event to inspire youth participation.

As the championships progressed into open water events in Paris, the French mixed relay team secured a fourth-place finish, trailing Germany, Italy, and Hungary. French head coach Bertrand Bompieyre noted the performance was consistent with expectations, stating, ‘Fourth, we are in our place on the relay.’ While the French team missed the podium in the final open water event, they previously earned two medals in the men's 3km knock-out competition.

In the pool at Saint-Denis, the French men's 4x200m freestyle relay team earned a silver medal with a time of 7:02.23. The team, consisting of Léon Marchand, Pierre Largeron, Sauveur Cristofini, and Roman Fuchs, finished behind Great Britain and ahead of Germany. This performance marked Marchand's debut in the continental competition following a withdrawal from the 400m individual medley due to an adductor injury. Roman Fuchs secured the second-place position by overtaking the German team in the final stages.
