Overview
In the first half of 2026, registrations across several vehicle categories rose throughout Europe. New motorcycle registrations increased 16.8% year‑on‑year to 636,490 units, with Germany, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom and France all posting double‑digit gains. Italy remained the largest market, while mopeds in six monitored countries grew 4.7%, led by Italy, Germany and Spain.
During the same period, the commercial‑vehicle segment also expanded. New van registrations rose 1.9% to 742,759 units, trucks grew 9.8% to 171,933 units and buses jumped 22.7% to 22,590 units. Growth was uneven: Spain posted a 7.9% increase, whereas Germany, Italy and France saw declines. Poland emerged as a strong performer, leading truck registrations and posting a 78% surge in bus registrations, making it the EU’s fourth‑largest bus market. Diesel remained dominant, but electric vans captured a 13.2% market share after a 41.6% year‑on‑year rise, and electric trucks grew 47.7% to hold 4.8% of registrations. The used‑truck market showed falling prices and higher inventory, while average mileage of used trucks rose sharply, indicating longer use before resale.
