EuroVolley 2026 in Gothenburg

The 2026 Women’s Volleyball European Championship is being hosted in Gothenburg, Sweden. Prior to the tournament, organizers emphasized its status as the first international volleyball championship to receive official sustainability certification. Environmental measures included the use of fossil-fuel-free buses, renewable electricity for train services, and the exclusion of red meat from certain catering to reduce the event’s carbon footprint.

As the tournament commenced, it marked the first time the women’s championship has been held in Sweden. The event, held at the Scandinavium arena, expected to set attendance records with daily ticket sales estimated between 4,300 and 5,000 spectators. The Swedish national team began the competition in a group stage featuring Italy, France, Croatia, Montenegro, and Slovakia.

In Group D, the Montenegro women's national team is preparing to face France at the Scandinavium arena following previous matches against Sweden and Italy. Montenegro player Katarina Budrak stated that the team has “overcome initial tournament nerves” and expressed confidence in their ability to compete. The upcoming match against France is noted to occur without French star player Elena Kazot, despite France having finished sixth at the previous European Championship.
