Everton transfer activity and Grealish pursuit
Entities: Manchester City Football Club · Enzo Maresca · Everton Football Club · Iliman Ndiaye · Jack Grealish
Overview
Following the 23 July briefing, Everton reaffirmed that they will wait until the close of the summer window to secure Jack Grealish, seeking a more favourable financial package as the England winger approaches the final year of his roughly £12 million Manchester City contract and continues rehabilitation from a foot injury.
The club’s recent summer arrivals – midfielder Hayden Hackney (still regaining match fitness), alongside Merlin Rohl and Tyrique George – have bolstered squad depth, while defender Jarrad Branthwaite returns from a hamstring problem and James Garner remains a groin doubt.
Grealish’s prospects sharpened after Manchester City omitted him from their Asian pre‑season tour, citing his injury, and new manager Enzo Maresca also left midfielder Kalvin Phillips out of the squad, signalling the players are not in City’s immediate plans. Everton therefore aim to trigger a permanent move before Grealish could leave on a free transfer next summer.
The Toffees also face interest in forward Iliman Ndiaye from Saudi clubs, adding urgency to finalize deals before the window shuts. Management hopes the added options will lift the team from a 13th‑place finish last season to a top‑eight league position and a possible European qualification.
