Expansion of Austrian outdoor route databases

Digital mapping services are expanding their coverage of outdoor routes in Austria.

In early August 2026, the German-based platform Trailradar updated its mountain-bike trail database to include Austrian UpperTrails and specific routes at Pfenningberg and Roadlberg. These listings include access roads and operator information, and are endorsed by the German Alpine Club. Trailradar distinguishes itself by focusing on legal paths, advising users to avoid other platforms that may route riders over illegal trails.

Later in the month, Mapy.com announced a significant expansion of its Austrian hiking trail database, reaching approximately 149,000 kilometers of marked pedestrian routes. To improve reliability, the company’s cartographic team manually verified trail courses and marking methods to create a standalone dataset, rather than relying on existing open-source data. This update includes nearly one million points of interest and is integrated into offline mapping tools for use in mountainous terrain.
