Expansion of Muslim-friendly tourism initiatives
Overview
Efforts to expand Muslim-friendly tourism are being pursued both within Indonesia and by international destinations targeting Indonesian travelers.
In Indonesia, the Ministry of Tourism and Bank Indonesia’s Department of Sharia Economics and Finance have launched a capacity-building initiative for tourism village managers. This program, which included a bootcamp in Bandung for villages across Aceh, West Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, and West Nusa Tenggara, focuses on institutional governance, digital marketing, and the implementation of Muslim-friendly principles to drive regional economic growth.
Concurrently, Taiwan is intensifying its promotion of Muslim-friendly travel to attract Indonesian tourists during the year-end and New Year holiday period. To improve its standing in the Global Muslim Travel Index, Taiwan is focusing on the availability of halal food, prayer rooms, wudu facilities, and Muslim-friendly accommodations. The strategy also highlights diverse activities such as hiking, cycling, and rural exploration to cater to evolving travel patterns.
