Overview

The Paris Court of Appeal ordered the extradition of Rexhino Abazaj, an Albanian anti-fascist activist known as ‘Gino’, to Germany. Abazaj is accused of participating in violent clashes against neo-Nazis during a parade in Budapest in February 2023. Following the court order, approximately 300 people gathered in Paris to protest the extradition. Abazaj has characterized the legal proceedings as ‘political persecution’ intended to suppress anti-fascist movements in Europe. The Budapest Solidarity Committee warned that the German extradition could lead to a transfer to Hungary, citing the precedent of another activist who was extradited from Germany and sentenced in a Hungarian prison. The case remains pending as the appeal moves to the Court of Cassation.
